Don't Talk to Strangers? Surprising Reasons to Do So!

As kids, we are always cautioned not to speak to strangers. No one knows what is lurking behind those ordinary looking faces, the smiling visages and the sweet words! No one knows what horrors could be visited on some unsuspecting little child or even an adult by a stranger with a nefarious purpose. And yet, strangers are not necessarily awful or dangerous. In fact, sometimes it’s a good idea to talk to strangers!

People are nice!

An overwhelming majority of times, there is no stranger danger. People are nice; you may be pleasantly surprised just how nice!

Friendship!

A wonderful friendship may be just around the corner. It may be waiting at the same bus stop for you each morning, it could be sitting on the bench behind you in class, it could be living in a house near yours!

Strangers can help!

You never know whether the opposite person is willing to help unless you ask for it. A surprising number of people are quite happy to help when you really need the help! Just ask!

You get over your own shyness

Practice talking to new people and try to get over your shyness. Once you make the effort, you may find that it isn’t as difficult as it seemed and is altogether more rewarding than you expected!

Makes the journey interesting

You can meet some of the most interesting people while travelling, hear some of the strangest stories and have the most memorable of experiences! Planes, trains or buses – travellers tend to have some fascinating stories to tell; have the ability to halve the tedium of travel!

They widen your horizons

New ideas, new perspective and a new way of looking at things – when you get to know new people, this helps widen your own horizons and helps you grow as a person!

Who knows what you may learn!

It may be something as superfluous as a new dance step, it could be something as profound as a new philosophy. You’ll never know until you trust yourself enough to get to know someone new.

You may have a lot in common!

You may have friends in common, experiences in common and even tales of woe in common! Party together, travel together, eat together, drink together and even cry together!

Networking!

Knowing more people always helps – you don’t know when knowing someone can come in handy – for personal or professional reasons. Remember, strangers don’t remain strangers. They can become friends, guides or sometimes even more!
