Remember Salman Khan’s dreadful comment about how training for his movie Sultan was so tough that he felt like ‘raped woman’? He was called out for this as well as his ignorant and insensitive comment about mental illness. The fact is that many of us may also make ignorant, awful and insensitive comments. However, famous people need to be circumspect about their statements – because what they say has an impact. So when famous people say stupid, downright awful stuff they need to be called out:
This revolting comment about domestic violence was made a long time ago and it also kind of dovetails with the sort of roles Connery played at the time. But it is horrifying to think that this was not a horrifying statement in the 1960s.
This comment by Penn on the #MeToo moment trivialises a big problem. Does the guy honestly think that the movement was something manufactured by people with some malevolent intent and not the organic outpouring of angst from women all over the world that it actually was?
He said the following words: "I actually don't like thinking. I think people think I like to think a lot. And I don't. I do not like to think at all." He has tweeted in favour of convicted sex offenders, said he was the next Nelson Mandela, made this statement and more. He also jumped on stage and snatched an award out of Taylor Swift’s hand. Actually, Kanye West’s stupid, ignorant and awful utterances /actions are a whole other post.
American actress and alleged comedienne Barr tweeted this – a statement that manages to be islamophobic as well as racist at the same time! She then ‘apologised’ for it – basically saying that she could have worded it better.
Most of the time, the Dalai Lama is offering the world words of wisdom, advocating peace and so on. Sometimes he wants to make a joke --- a very bad one --- because why else would he make a sexist comment like this?
So the woman who is famous for being famous – and occasionally dumb – said this. It is both ignorant and homophobic, but why should this surprise us?
OK, so where do we even begin. This once-successful actor had been on a downward spiral for a while. He yelled anti-Semitic words when he was arrested for drunk driving, was abusive and racist against his own girlfriend and mother of 9 kids. And just as a cherry on the cake – he allegedly called Winona Ryder an ‘oven dodger’ – a horrific reference to the cremation of Jews during the holocaust.
