Four days to go before the ‘Dawn of Justice’ in India. For those of you who are not clued in, this is the story line where Batman and Superman meet, fight against each other and finally set up the Justice League to deal with super villains or groups of super villains, who are too powerful for any one hero to handle alone. We love superheroes, and we adore books, comics, grafic novels, animated films and feature films about them. Which is probably why writers in India have been ‘inspired’ to create these desi avatars of these American superheroes.

The Punisher will surely punish us for this

The Punisher will surely punish us for this

Doga is a guy who has an arsenal of machine guns, grenades, bombs, automatic rifles and every hi-tech weapon imaginable, which he uses mercilessly to wipe off Mumbai’s underworld. Doesn’t this style remind you of one Mr. Frank Castle (Punisher) who once killed off the entire Marvel universe?

Dhruv/Nightwing

Commando Dhruva is that you?

Commando Dhruva is that you?

A gymnast born and brought up in a circus who saw his parents get killed and later on took the mantle of the saviour of his city with the help of hi-tech gadgets, genius level intellect and phenomenal hand to hand combat skills. If I don’t tell you his name, you’d be forgiven to assume that he is the sidekick of a certain Dark Knight.

No beating the original

From looks to origin stories, there is nothing about Inspector Steel that hasn’t been copied from the critically acclaimed Robocop. Our comic book industry is awarded 10 on 10 for desifying this one.

Tiranga/Captain America

The First Avenger

The First Avenger

Well, no words needed here. Since we can’t be expected to feel awesome about a guy who only fights for a different country, we went ahead and got one of our own. We’re surprised no one has objected to Tiranga wearing a Tiranga as a cape.

Fighter Toads/TMNT

Cutter, Shooter, Master and Computer VS Leo, Donny, Mikey, and Raph. Now why would we need to glorify amphibians in India? This one is a little disappointing because it is too blatant copy with no context to the Indian people, or issues. But hey it exists so it’s on this list.
