Best Movies to Curl Up With this Christmas

Just as some of us thought that we may venture out for a little festivity this Christmas, a new mutated version of the coronavirus manifests itself. So social distancing requirements are still very much in place and there is only so much Christmas cheer one can imbibe trough a face mask. The safest course of action still seems to be to stay at home. And there are plenty of Christmas-themed movies to watch:

The Man Who Invented Christmas

Starring  Dan Stevens, Christopher Plummer and Jonathan Pryce, this is the story of Charles Dickens as he struggled to write the quintessential Christmas tale The Christmas Carol. Facing writer’s block, the author encounters all the characters what would later become the most iconic characters: Scrooge, Tiny Tim and others. This one is currently available on Hulu where you can avail a free trial right now.

Klaus

This award-winning animation film is about a postman, a toymaker called Klaus and the unhappiest place on earth. It’s all about the spirit of giving and about spreading joy… sort of Santa's back story. This movie received rave reviews for the voicing, animation and story and is available on Netflix.

The Knight Before Christmas

Turns out there were a lot of movies made with this exact same name over the years. This one is the 2019 Christmas-themed rom-com featuring the modern woman craving love and a knight that time travels from the 14the century. Starring Vanessa Hudgens and Josh Whitehouse, the movie is predictable fare, but sweet and heartwarming nonetheless and is streaming on Netflix right now.

Christmas in the Heartland

This is a teenage comedy movie about two girls, Kara and Jessie who decide to swap identities after a chance meeting on a plane. One of them gets to be a sort of heiress while the other gets to experience a very different type of life. Starring Sierra McCormick, Brighton Sharbino and Bo Derek this one is available to rent on VUDU.

The Polar Express

This one is available on Amazon Prime as well as on YouTube on a pay per watch basis. Something of a classic, this one was supposed to be a landmark film in terms of its animation (it’s another matter that some of us found the strangely dead eyes of the characters to be seriously weird). Watch this one for Tom Hanks if not for anything else.

Holidate

This one is pretty much what the name suggests – two single people who decide to date for the holidays – pretend date that is. this is nothing that we haven’t seen before, but what saves the movie from seeming trite and repetitive is a very good looking lead pair of Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey, good writing and fun supporting characters/ plotlines. This is another heartwarming Christmas themed movie that you may want to curl up with this festive season – streaming now on Netflix.
