One could call Bridgerton a sort of extended Mills & Boon romance, more particularly a regency romance, since it is supposed to be set in Victorian/Edwardian England. What makes it unique is its colour blind casting. Supposedly set in times when slavery of human beings was a reality, we are shown people of different ethnicities, characters of Indian/ African extraction as part of the British aristocracy. Bridgerton Season 2 is coming to Netflix soon and the final trailer dropped recently:
Season one followed the love story of Daphne and Simon, the Duke of Hastings. Season two follows the fortunes of Anthony and Kate Sharma.
The Bridgerton series follows the lives of the Bridgerton siblings: Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory and Hyacinth.
We see Daphne return in season 2 with her child, but according to reports, the handsome Simon is not going to be a part of the second season.
When it was released, it became the most-watched series on Netflix. To date, it is the second most-watched series by total watch-time on the platform.
The people are all gorgeous, they wear lovely clothes, the settings are beautiful --- it’s escapism, pure and simple. There is no pretension to historical accuracy or realism here.
The series is supposed to be Regency England, but the music promises to be thoroughly modern.
At some point they will explain the Indian background of the female lead played by the stunning Simone Ashley.
We saw in Season 1 that Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey is the inveterate rake who will supposedly be reformed by the spirited Kate.
We can predict how it goes. He pursues the girl, only to find that the girl’s sister is much more interesting. The sister keeps her distance because anything else would be a betrayal.
Viewers are looking forward to the chemistry between the two main characters.
One of the younger Bridgerton siblings Eloise is a something of a feminist considering the times. It should be fun to see what this series has in store for her as well.
The Featheringtons are another significant family of the series. Penelope, who is Eloise’s close friend, is an important character. She was revealed to be Lady Whistledown, the writer of the society papers in the last season and we may see a subplot there as well.
The second season of Bridgerton releases on 25th March 2022 and some can hardly wait!
