After Sweet Rose Maggi We Now Have Chocolate Dosa

I am all for fusion food and unusual, new and creative dishes. However, I draw the line at experimentation for the sake of it. For instance my eyes will round in horror at the mention of something like sweet rose Maggi.  And then I further shake my head in dismay when I hear of a chocolate dosa topped with nuts and dried fruits.

The chocolate dosa

This tweet shares the video of someone making a dosa and then topping it with chocolate sauce, nuts, raisins, and what appear to be cherries. The commentator claims that something like this makes one lose faith in humanity.

What!

Many were disturbed by this unnatural seeming fusion of sweet and savoury; this attempt to glamourise this staple from the South.

Whatever next!

This Twitter user had another objectionable suggestion.

Also…

Why! Just why!

Just…

…Noooo!

“This is nothing”

This commentator had another horror to share. Clearly things like this traumatise sane, right thinking people.

Things like this…

…Can destroy friendships according to this commentator.

Death by chocolate

While death by chocolate usually has quite another connotation – a rich, gooey pastry – here it has quite a different connotation.

Applause?

Or sarcasm?

This question

Someone thought that the chocolate dosa concoction looked ‘tasty’. Other commentators clarified that they were alone in thinking this.

Most were like…

…What did I just see!

Not a dosa

This commentator suggested that this isn’t a dosa at all; but that it is a crêpe, which is like a very thin pancake often had with fruit or sweet syrups.

However

Most were still not convinced.

This graphic reaction

The general reaction to a chocolate dosa was still something like this. For most this was still culinary blasphemy. What I say is, a dosa is a wonderful thing accompanied by sambhar and chutney. Chocolate sauce and nuts are wonderful in a sundae. Why mix the two? Why fix what ain’t broke?
