Gone are those days when people used to run behind big brands and large companies to get a job. Now is the time for startups and most people are making their way up in startups to grow. But as great as the opportunity to grow in startups is, it never hurts to be prudent. You wouldn’t want to get into something that is not right for you, so here are five things to keep in mind before working for a startup:
Work experience of founders
While one doesn’t require any experience to open a startup, running it successfully is a different thing altogether, one where experience is much-needed. So, when you go for an interview in a startup, do ask the owners about their work experience and analyze if they have the potential of taking the company places.
Scope of Growth
Look at the post you are being offered and where you will be in the next few years. Most startups do give you the opportunity of growing fast, making them the perfect fit for you.
Check their funding
If you are taking up a job in a startup that is properly funded with sufficient backing, you are bound to stay satisfied in terms of payments. But when it comes to non-funded startups, you might have to struggle a bit for paychecks being on time.
Long Hours
Getting into a startup is no less than having your own company and you will be asked to work for long hours. So, make sure you are cool with that before accepting an offer letter from a startup.
Team size
Many startups have only 2-3 people in a team, which means you have to play different roles at one time. So, make sure you are fine with the team size before joining.
