442.5 For Two Bananas & Other Rahul Bose Moments

If you’ve stayed at a high-end hotel or dined at a fancy restaurant you know that a lot of things are stupidly overpriced at such establishments. Bottled water will cost much more than its actual price; as for the items at the minibar – everyone knows that you must never, ever have those! Actor Rahul Bose had a similar experience with overpriced bananas as a Chandigarh hotel:

Fruit “harmful to you existence”

After a bit of a room tour, Rahul Bose shows us two bananas and the bill for them – the two bananas were billed for Rs. 442.5.

The reactions

Some thought that it was funny and posted this minions song. Others thought that it was just lazy to ask for two bananas in the room and thought Bose should have stepped out to get some from the hawkers outside. Some explained that it is the fruit platter that cost so much; the hotel system may not be able to bill for just two bananas.

That's crazy

Many suggested that he should have got the bananas for free from the breakfast buffet (which is free with stays in many five star hotel packages).

Some thought it was really funny

Another one of the tweeple also pointed out that Bose could have got a dozen bananas for the GST charged

A Marriot issue?

The hotel in question was the J W Marriot at Chandigarh. Another Twitter user shared his bill of a meal where chicken curry cost 1275 and steamed rice was 495; and then something called ‘trip charges’ were tacked on.

Dosa for 800

Some of us go to a South Indian restaurant for the sambhar; some for the pocket friendly prices. Clearly that is not the case here.

Popcorn!

This has pinched us all, hasn’t it! Buying popcorn at a multiplex – hundreds for a tub; and if it is flavoured, it becomes even more exorbitant.

Pani puri

This comment shared how another five star hotel charge for something that usually costs 20 rupees at a chat stall.

Expensive meal

The items on the menu look great, but the price of ₹ 3,186 per meal; perhaps less so.

Airport samosa

Food at airports is also very expensive – even KFC chicken costs more at the airport than it does at the mall. As this comment explains, the charge not just for the food but for the convenience.

This is also my Rahul Bose moment

I have paid as much as Rs. 400 for a kg of coriander – because when chutney has to be made, chutney has to be made!

When an iPhone---

---Is not an iPhone!

Reverse Rahul Bose moment

Rs. 2 for tea? Apparently this still happens!

But the winner is---

---This guy who paid for extra baggage because his check-in bags contained so many bottles of mineral water!
