Cricket is the game of glorious uncertainties – however, it was pretty much a certainty that a team like New Zealand would beat Afghanistan. There was a very slim outside chance of India making it to the semifinals – if the outcome went the other way. Regardless of how unlikely such an outcome would be, Indian cricket fans were rooting for the minnows and praying for Afghanistan to win. It was Indian cricket fans that seemed to be posing most of the #NZvAFG memes:
Afghanistan was India’s last hope – if they managed to defeat New Zealand, India had a chance.
People were trying out various permutations and combinations to try and figure out if India had a snowball’s chance in hell of getting ahead in the tournament.

The support came from Indians fans more than those from Afghanistan.
This is far more support that the Afghanis are used to.
It wasn’t so much support for Afghanistan as a remote hope of the Kiwis losing.
It would take a miracle!

The Afghanistan team was the BFF of Indian fans – just this once.
Regardless of skipper Virat Kohli’s own personal performance, the fact is that the Indian team did not perform as a unit and probably didn’t deserve to proceed in the competition.
Whatever hope Afghanistan and India may have had was short-lived.
Afghanistan made 124 for 8 and New Zealand comfortably won with 11 balls and 8 wickets to spare.
…When Afghanistan lost.
We could look at it this way – we can now enjoy the remainder of the tournament without stress and despair.
The match may have been disappointing but the memes are funny.
India takes on Namibia today – it makes zero difference to India’s prospects in the competition but it may offer some consolation.
