Two Closely Contested Matches on Day 13 of IPL 2017

On the thirteenth day of edition ten of the Indian Premier League, we saw two keenly contested matches: in match no.18, the Delhi Daredevils took on the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi, while Sunrisers Hyderabad took on Kings XI Punjab at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Hosts Delhi won the toss

Taking on the Kolkata team at their home ground, the Delhi Daredevils chose to bat after winning the toss. Openers Sanju Samson (39 off 25) and Sam Billings (21 off 17) gave their team a good start. Subsequently Karun Nair and Shreyas Iyer also made useful contributions. Rishabh Pant made a valuable contribution with his knock of 38 off just 16 balls (2 boundaries, 4 sixes and a strike rate of 237). The team managed 168 runs in their allotted overs.

KKR edged past DD

Kolkata had an uneven beginning with opener Colin de Grandhomme departing for just one run and man of the previous match, Robin Uthappa managing just four runs. Manish Pandey was the team's top scorer with 69 off 49 and Yusuf Pathan came through with a fast paced 59 off 39. It was a closely fought contest with KKR having lost 6 wickets and scoring the winning run with just one ball to spare.

Nathan Coulter-Nile was Man of the Match

Rishabh Pant of the Delhi won the Perfect Catch award as well as the Maximum Sizes award. Manish Pandey won the Most Stylish Player award and the Orange Cap also passed on to him. However, it was Australian Nathan Coulter-Nile who was presented the Man of the Match award for taking the important wickets of Billings, Pant and Nair and his bowling economy (5.5 an over).

KXIP won the toss

Visitors Kings XI Punjab won the toss and put Sunrisers Hyderabad in to bat first. Skipper David Warner dominated the innings, was the highest scorer for his team with his 70 runs off 54 and he remained not out till the end. Naman Ojha contributed with a quick 34 off 20 balls and helped the team get to a total of 159.

160 was unachievable for the KXIP

Set a seemingly achievable target of 160 to win, KXIP lost opener Hashim Amla on the first ball. Manan Vohra’s brilliant 95 off 50 was in vain as no other batsman was able to make any significant contribution. KXIP ultimately fell short by just 5 runs.

Bhuwaneshwar Kumar was Man of the Match

The Perfect Catch award went to David Miller. The Maximum sixes award and the Stylish Player of the Day award, both went to Manan Vohra. However, it was Bhuwaneshwar Kumar who won the Man of the Match award for his 5 wicket haul. Giving away just 19 runs, he claimed the wickets of Hashim Amla, Manan Vohra, Glenn Maxwell, Mohit Sharma and K C Cariappa to play a decisive role in his team's win.
