The IPL 2021 Update – Matches 40, 41, 42, 43

Right now, the IPL seems to be heading in a consistent direction with Chennai Super Kings at the top followed by Delhi Capitals; both with 16 points. Royal Challengers Bangalore is at number three with 14 points followed by Kolkata Knight Riders and then Mumbai Indians with 10 points each. Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals have 8 points each and Sunrisers Hyderabad languishes at the bottom with just 4 points. Here’s what happened at IPL 2021 matches 40, 41, 42 and 43:

Match 40 RR v SRH

RR won the toss and decided to bat first at the Dubai International Stadium. Skipper wicketkeeper Sanju Samson top-scored for his team with 82 off 57.

SRH won

Opener Jason Roy top scored with 60 off 42. Skipper Kane Williamson (in place of David Warner) made 51 off 41 to guide his team to victory.

MoM

Jason Roy was player of the match. For SRH this was only their second win of this season.

Out?

SRH fans haven’t lost hope yet. There is still a chance, albeit extremely remote, of being able to make the playoffs.

Match 41 DC v KKR

Winning the toss the Kolkata team decided to bowl first. DC were restricted to 127/9 by KKR. Steve Smith and Rishabh Pant made 39 each.

KKR won

Shubham Gill made 30 while Nitish Rana made 36, while Eoin Morgan the skipper went for a duck. However KKR won by 3 wickets with 10 balls to spare.

Sunil Naraine was MoM

He claimed two wickets while conceding just 18 runs. He also made a quick 21 off 10 balls and received the Man of the Match award for this performance.

Match 42 MI v PBKS

Mumbai Indians bowled first after winning the toss. Punjab Kings only managed 135 for 6 with skipper K L Rahul making 22, Aiden Markram making 42 and Deepak Hooda scoring 28.

MI won

Rohit Sharma went cheaply and Suryakumar Yadav made 0 though Quinton de Kock made 27. In the end they won with 6 wickets and 6 balls left.

MoM

Kieron Pollard was declared man of the match for taking 2 wickets and for scoring 15* off 7 balls.

Others are watching

We are now at the stage of the competition when teams are watching the performance of other teams more closely than their own.

Match 43 RR vs RCB

RCB won the toss and put Rajasthan Royals in to bat first. Openers Evin Lewis (58 off 37) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (31 off 22) did well but few other batsmen made much of an impact. RR made 149 for 9

RCB reply

Openers Virat Kohli made 25 and Devdutt Padikkal made 22 off 17. However, it was Srikar Bharat who made 44 and Glen Maxwell who made 50 off 30 to take RCB to victory.

RCB won

RCB won easily in the end, getting to 153/3 with nearly three overs to spare. Yuzvendra Chahal was the man of the match for his economical bowling and two wickets. Harshal Patel took three wickets.
