The India Test Innings Collapsed for 36 Runs & It Was Knives-Out on Twitter

It was a first of sorts – the worst kind, unfortunately. This was India’s lowest-ever score in a test match.  For a while, it seemed like it was advantage-India, however that hope was short-lived. Team India collapsed to a dreadful and humiliating collapse on day 3 of the first test against Australia at Adelaide. The tweeple seemed extremely upset, to say the least.

36 run innings

The Indian innings crashed to destruction in just 21.2 overs and Mayank Agarwal was the ‘top-scoring’ batsman with 9 runs. Technically they weren't all-out since Mohammed Shami retired hurt.

Doomed to disappointment

India started the day with a 62 run lead; at 9 for 1. Any joy, however, was very, very short-lived.

It was over brutally quickly

It took just 15.2 overs on the third day of the test for the home team to wrap up the Indian batting side. The Aussies went on to an eight-wicket win.

Grim!

This is India’s worst-ever test score. They have laid to rest the ghost of 1974, when they were all out for 42 against England at Lords.

A dark day for Indian cricket

While this is not the lowest-ever score (in 1955, New Zealand were all out for 26 against England in Auckland), it is pretty close.

Pretty much

The Indian innings was over soon after it started.

Everything went wrong

Including a runout.

A speedy collapse

Josh Hazlewood took 5 wickets whereas Pat Cummins snaffled 4 wickets. Shami retired hurt thanks to Cummins.

The country is changing

…And not for the better, felt some of the tweeple.

Of course some blamed…

…The coach.

Ravi Shastri

He is among the less popular coaches the Indian cricket team has had.

‘Fastest things in the world’

This tweet points out that speed is good in some cases, but not in others. It also seems to recall Dhoni fondly.

Some were missing…

…Rohit Sharma.

What’s going on?

As the Indian team’s fortunes continued to plummet, fans wished for any intervention that would save the situation.

Too fast

The Indian innings seemed less like a live relay and more like the match highlights.

Indian batsmen were like...

Wickets fell at breakneck speed.

The problem

Not only is India better at home, the team seems far better at the shorter versions of the game. They seem to have forgotten that tests require a whole different approach and mind space.

Many ‘experts’

Indian cricket fans experts had many suggestions and solutions to offer.

People took in hard

36 runs is a truly disastrously poor score. Some Indian cricket fans are going to bear the scars of this test match against Australia for a long time to come.
