The guys who make up the so-called B Team of Indian cricket are legit heroes right now. They have shown guts, grit, talent and immense confidence to comprehensively win the Border-Gavaskar trophy; beard the lion in its den so to speak. It goes without saying that the players received warm welcomes upon their return. However it was a different story for some.
Some have forgotten that this was the same series in which the Indian batsmen were all out for 36 --- almost forgotten.
No matter what lows the team experienced, it is the final 2-1 win that we will all remember.
The masks are in place and social distancing norms mean that the tumultuous welcoming crowds are not to be seen at the airports this time around.
Fans were welcoming the players home, there were joyful reunions with family and other gladdening images to be seen.
Remember T Natarajan and the bit of controversy around alleged discrimination in the Indian team? Well he received this rousing welcome when he returned home. What can we say other than it happens only in India!
Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant really made a splash during this series. He has surpassed some of M S Dhoni's statistics. On his return he said he wanted to make a name for himself.
Cheteshwar Purjara’s heroic innings in the fourth test included him facing and getting hit by many vicious bouncers from the frustrated Aussies. The medicine prescribed by his little daughter is rather heart-melting.
One of the heroes of the recently concluded Australia series is Mohammed Siraj. The 26-year-old’s humble beginnings (has father was an auto-rickshaw driver) and this stellar performance (14 wickets in the series) have been making headlines. Siraj lost his father last November when he was still on tour. Upon his return, this is what he did.
The father dreamed of his son playing for the country, a dream that has come true – in spades! Some of the tweeple were quite emotional about it all.
