Yesterday was day 3 of the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League. Day three saw the third venue, the third opening ceremony and some new records being set for the IPLT20. For the first time so far, it was the visitors and not the hosts that triumphed. Here are some of the highlights of the third opening ceremony and the match between Gujarat Lions and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium at Rajkot.
So far the opening ceremony(ies) have not exactly received rave reviews. The first performance by Amy Jackson in particular attracted some fairly derisive reactions.
There was a lot of local colour with Gujarati men and women togged up in colourful costumes and performing the garba at the third opening ceremony of IPL2017 at Rajkot. Bhoomi Trivedi performed some of the more popular garba/raas based songs from the movie Raamleela-Goliyon ki Raasleela. However, she constantly seemed to be tripping over her dress.
The duo took forward the opening ceremony at Rajkot with some popular numbers such as Dance Basanti, Char baj gaye and others.
Gujarat Lions captain Suresh Raina and Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir pledged to play hard and play fair to uphold the Spirit of Cricket as each pair of captains has done so far.
The superfit Tiger Shroff was next to take centre stage with his amazingly athletic, even gymnastic dance moves. He performed to some of his most popular numbers.
KKR team owner Shah Rukh Khan was in attendance with his son AbRam as well.
KKR won the toss and elected to field first. Put in to bat, the Gujarat team made 183 while losing four wickets. Captain Suresh Raina scored a captain’s knock of 68 runs and crossed the record set by Virat Kohli to become the highest run scorer in the IPL.
The opening pair of Chris Lynn and Gautam Gambhir put up an unbeaten 184 run partnership to take their team to a 10 wicket win. This was the IPL’s highest successful run chase without losing any wickets. KKR did it in style with almost 6 overs to spare.
It was a surprise that he opened the innings, but the decision proved to be an excellent one. His fifty came in just 19 balls and went on to score 93 off just 41 balls; an innings studded with 8 sixes and four boundaries.
