India went into the fourth Test with a comfortable series lead of 2-1. At the end of Day Two of the Fourth Test between India and England, India had taken an 89-run lead. This was in large part thanks to some doughty knocks from batsmen such as Rishabh Pant and Washington Sudar. Here’s what happened in the end: check out the fourth test highlights, memes and players of the match and series.
On day one, England were all out for 205 with the spinners once again getting in on the action. At the end of day two, India had comfortable lead.
Rishabh Pant was clearly having a great day at the office. His 101 came off 118 balls before he was caught by Joe Root off the bowling of James Anderson.
And he’s doing it well, as we could all hear.
The reverse sweep is always a rather spectacular looking shot. Pant aced it.
It is largely thanks to Pant’s knock that India began day 3 in a commanding position with Washington Sundar and Axar Patel at the crease and three wickets left.
Rohit Sharma just missed a half century (a measured 49 runs), but Washington Sundar did not.
They seemed to be a loss.
He really tried, but unfortunately for Sundar, he ran out of guys to play with.
In the end, he remained not out for 96 because the two tail-enders did what tail-enders so often do – scored a duck.
It was Axar Patel who played an important role getting India to 365 with his 46 run contribution.
Patel was a star before his home crowd. Twice. That had to have been really special.
The English batsmen couldn’t withstand the Indian attack for too long and the team folded for 135 all out.
The Indian spinners once again showed how clueless the English batsmen are when it comes to spin.
For his century, Pant got the Player of the Match award.
Ravichandran Ashwin was Player of the series for his truly amazing all-round performance.
The Indians won by an innings and 25 runs, finishing off the match in less than three days.
To say that this series belonged to the bowlers would be an oversimplification. It was a team effort and it was delightful to watch how it wasn’t the big stars but also some of the junior players who helped the Indians completely outplay the English.
The series win over England means that India will now face New Zealand in World Test Championship final at Lord's which will take place at Lord's between June 18-June 22.
