Things are beginning to shape up and some teams are emerging as clearly better performers than others. We are able to guess now which of the 8 teams are likely to make it to the playoffs of IPL 2017 barring some miraculous changes of fortune. So when KKR took on DD and SRH clashed with KXIP, the results were not terribly surprising. Here are the highlights of matches 32 and 33 on Day 24 at the Indian Premier League’s which is in this 10th year this time.
KKR won the toss at their home ground Eden Gardens and put DD in to bat first. Opener Sanju Samson made a very impressive 60 off 38 balls and Shreyas Iyer was the other major contributor with his 47 off 34. The Delhi team managed 160 for 6 in their 20 overs. Nathan Coulter-Nile snagged three important wickets for this team.
Though opener Sunil Narine was out cheaply, skipper Gautam Gambhir (71 off 52) and Robin Uthappa (59 off 33) ensured that the hosts remained in the driver's seat. In the end they managed to overhaul the set target with 7 wickets and 22 balls remaining.
Gautam Gambhir was named Player of the Match for his stint with the bat.
Playing at their home ground of Mohali, KXIP took on SRH, won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first. After a lean patch, Shikhar Dhawan came into his own with a masterful knock of 77 off 48. David Warner made 51 off 27 and Kane Williamson made 54 off 27 to take the visitors to an impressive 207. Glenn Maxwell was the most successful bowler with two wickets and the best economy.
Martin Guptill started by scoring 23; Manan Vohra was out cheaply. Shaun Marsh made a very impressive 84 off 50 but none of the other batsmen were able to really get in and score. Ultimately they fell short by 26 runs.
Glenn Mawell got the perfect Catch of the Match. David Warner got the Maximum Sixes award. The Stylish Player of the day was Shaun Marsh and the Player of the Match was Rashid Khan for his one wicket and tight bowling (economy of 4 an over) which restricted KXIP.
