Does the Result of Match No 40 of IPL 2017 Change Team Fortunes?

On the 28th day of the currently ongoing tenth Indian Premier League, match no. 40 yielded rather unexpected results. Delhi Daredevils took on title defenders Sunrisers Hyderabad at home at the Feroze Shah Kotla ground in Delhi. The result has kept things interesting for the competition. We look at the highlights of the match between DD and SRH on day 29 of IPL2017.

Delhi Daredevils v Sunrisers Hyderabad

With DD skipper Zaheer Khan out of the reckoning for the time being with a hamstring injury, it was Karun Nair captained the Delhi side, won the toss and put the visitors SRH in to bat. Skipper David Warner (30 off 21), Shikhar Dhawan (28 off 17) Kane Williamson (24 off 24) and Moises Henriques (25 off 18) made good contributions but the standout batsman for SRH was Yuvraj Singh who made 70 off 41 (not out). The home team was set a target of 186 to win.

It was a professional performance from DD

The bowling came good for DD with Mohammed Shami finding form to take 2 wickets. Batsmen were also consistent: Sanju Samson (24 off 19), Karun Nair (39 off 20), Rishabh Pant (34 off 20), Shreyas Iyer (33 off 25), Corey Anderson (41 off 24) and Chris Morris (15 off) all contributed to get the team to victory with 5 balls to spare.

Post match presentation

The award for the Perfect Catch of the Match went to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Corey Anderson received the award for the Maximum Sixes of the match.  Yuvraj Singh was declared Stylish Player of the Day. The Player of the Match was Mohammed Shami who returned to cricket after an extended absence due to injury.

DD keep playoff hopes alive

Though Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders continue to top the table, with this win DD’s fortunes look a little more respectable. SRH and RPS seem likely to make the playoffs. Right now, it is only RCB who seem to have been practically eliminated. Kings XI Punjab still have a chance. Gujarat Lions could technically make it if they win all their matches and is MI and KKR win all theirs. It’s all still up in the air, it would seem.

SRH skipper is the Orange Cap

David Warner is the highest run getter so far; having scored 102 more runs than No 2 Gautam Gambhir. He has also made the highest score so far and scored the most number of sixes.

Bhuvneshwar is still the leading wicket taker
