The tour down under has been in the news for all sorts of reasons – Virat Kohli’s paternity leave, his lookaline, the fact that matches are being played before live audiences etc. Then we had the Australians winning the ODI series 21 and the consolation that India won the T20 series 2-1. Here is what happened in the three-match India Australia ODI and T20 series.
Some people were still in IPL mode. They had to remind themselves that this is now international cricket.
Australia batted first and got up to a whopping 374 for 6. Audiences were missing Rohit Sharma.
Former skipper Steve Smith and skipper Aaron Finch both scored hundreds.
Hardik Pandya’s 90 and Shikhar Dhawan’s 74 were in vain in the end.
Australia once more piled up a huge total of 389 for 4 with Steven Smith getting a ton yet again.
In spite of Kohli’s 89 and K L Rahul’s 76, Australia won by 52 runs. India lost 9 wickets while managing to get only 338.
India got 305 while losing 5 wickets in their 50 overs in the third ODI. Indian skipper Virat Kohli came through with 63 off 78, Ravidra Jadeja scored a rapid 66 off 50 while Hardik Pandya (MoM) top scored with 92 off 76.
India won the match by 13 runs. Steve Smith was declared man of the series.
India made 161/7 in their 20 overs with Rahul’s 51, and Ravindra Jadeja’s 44 being the most significant contributions.
The home team could manage only 150/7. Jadeja was hit on the head during his innings and Yuzvendra Chahal replaced him. Chahal went on to take three wickets and also won Man of the Match. Aussie Coach Langer's predicament caused much mirth among the tweeple.
Australia batted first and got to 194/5 with the help of Matthew Wade’s half century and Smith’s 46.
Shikhar Dhawan made a competent 52 off 36 with the skipper getting 40 off 24.
It was Hardik Pandya who took the match away from the Aussies with his 42 off 22. With 14 needed in the last over, he finished things off in style with two balls to spare.
The Aussies made 186 for 5 with Wade once again making his mark with 80 off just 53. This guy, however, a Kohli lookalike seemed to be the centre of attention.
The skipper’s 85 off 61 went in vain as India fell short by 12 runs to lose the final T20. With Australia and India having won the ODI and T20 series respectively, all eyes are now on the first India-Australia test of this series at the Adelaide Oval on 17 December 2020.
