A Significant Upset and Other Highlights of Match Forty Eight of IPL

It was a much awaited faceoff between the current competition leaders versus the title defenders on the 34th day of the Indian Premier League 2017. Sunrisers Hyderabad took on Mumbai Indians (the only team to have qualified for the playoffs) on their home ground at Hyderabad yesterday. Here are some highlights of a low scoring match no 48 and the interesting result in the end.

SRH v MI

The home team Sunrisers Hyderabad was asked to field first as Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first. The star of the last match, Lendl Simmons departed early and the visitors were struggling to get runs on the board.

It was a modest total

Parthiv Patel made 23 off 17 and Hardik Pandya made 15 off 24; however it was skipper Rohit Sharma who took up cudgels for his team to smash 67 off 45. It was a modest total in the end and the home team was set a target of just 139 to win.

It was a comfortable win for SRH

Skipper David Warner departed uncharacteristically early (scoring just 6 off 6), but Shikhar Dhawan (62 off 46 not out) and Moises Henriques (44 off 35) made up for it. The home team achieved the set target with 7 wickets and 10 balls to spare.

Post match presentation

David Warner received the award for the perfect Catch of the Match. Rohit Sharma received the award for the Maximum Sixe and the award for the Stylish Player of the Day went to Mohammad Nabi. Player of the Match was an obvious choice: Shikhar Dhawan for his match winning knock and for staying not out till the end.

David Warner is the top batsman so far

Captain of SRH, Warne is the clear leader right now in terms of runs scored, highest score and the most number of sixes. Chris Lynn is the leader in the strike rate department with a s/r of 201.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is still the Purple Cap

It seems difficult for anyone to wrest the Purple Cap away from this SRH player. Andrew Tye currently has the best bowling average and the best bowling figures while Nathu Singh has the best bowling economy; just 3.75 an over.
