Kind Things Strangers Do – Proving That The World Is A Nice Place!

The pessimists of the world feel that no one does anything nice for anyone else unless they have an ulterior motive. Most of the time, twitter; a platform full of hate, aggression and abuse, seems to provide sound evidence of this. However, optimists feel that there is good in people; that altruism is real. On Twitter as well, there are times when the tweeple decide to speak sanely, about some of the positive aspects of life:

This started things off

This Twitter user narrated an incident where the flight attendant was helpful and thoughtful following an onboard disaster involving a baby and copious amounts of vomit.

This incident

She also narrates another incident where a couple helped her when she was stuck in a snow drift. This started the ball rolling.

Some stories were heroic

This was a story about a man riding by on his bike, who simply dropped his bike by the roadside to come and rescue two kids stuck in a burning house.

Fainting on a subway

This woman talked about a stranger helping her out and expressing compassion for her when she fainted on the subway.

The little things

This twitter user spoke about attracting a lot of stares and comments while pregnant; and about a woman who stuck up for her.

Giving up his ticket

This is about an army man who gave up his seat on a crowded flight for a woman and her baby. She speaks of how this makes her emotional even 15 years later.

This story

How a bunch of people decided to help out someone on the phone who was considering suicide.

Sometimes…

….All you need is a hug! Several people shared stories about strangers offering simple comfort at difficult times.

“Needed this”

A lot of people were really appreciative of the stories that people shared: touching, heartening, uplifting.

Making the world better

Sometimes the tears well up when we read or hear about something that restores our faith in humanity and in the decency and general goodness of people. We don’t need grand gestures and it doesn’t always have to be brave. All it takes is a bit of thoughtfulness, some compassion and fellow feeling for others to help make the world a little bit better.
