Of all the students out there, it’s engineers who have the most number of myths associated with them. Almost everyone has made all these assumptions about them that are simply laughable. So, to bring some clarity, here are 6 frustrating myths about Engineers that we debunk:
1. There are no girl Engineers
Not only is this myth extremely sexist, but it’s also completely incorrect. Marie Curie, Lillian Gilbreth and Lanying Lin made strides in their fields and, no, they weren’t men!
2. They are all just Nerds
No they’re not. Most engineering students actively organize events, take part in different cultural fests and are also a part of their university’s sports teams.
3. Their campus resembles Dexter’s Lab
Engineering students are not crazy inventors working in labs in creating funky and unique gadgets. While a few of them might be able to build something cool (as a project or out of curiosity), this is actually the exception and not the rule.
4. They all get high paying jobs
This is a myth that just needs to be debunked. No, all engineering students do not get high paying jobs. In fact, most of them don’t and it’s only a select few that secure those high profile placements.
5. They can’t get girlfriends/boyfriends
This myth is a blatant and offensive stereotype. Some of the most stylish, well groomed, educated and enticing people are engineering students. And, let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want a Girlfriend or Boyfriend that hit all those check boxes?
6. They’re always studying
Now this is one myth that engineering students would love to be true. Ask most of them about their study hours though and they’ll tell you how they only start preparing for exams at the last minute
