The full-length trailer for Season 6 is already out, and we, the steadfast fans of Game of Thrones, can’t wait for the drama to unfold on our screens again. We have been introduced to all the clans who are in the run for the Iron throne, but we firmly believe that it should go to the original descendant, Daenerys Targaryen. We have our reasons, and not just because she is entitled to it by birth, but because in the past five seasons, she has proved her mettle as a cruel, yet fair and brave ruler. She has risen like a phoenix from the ashes of Khal Drogo, and will be the true heir, in every meaning and sense. Here are our reasons for why Daenerys Targaryen is the true heir to the seven kingdoms.

She comes from House Targaryen, the true rulers of the seven kingdoms, who originally sat on the Iron Throne.

As Ser Jon Mormont puts it to her, “You have a gentle heart. You would not only be respected and feared, you would be loved. Someone who can rule and should rule.”

We see her strength in Season 1, when the vile Viserys fondles her on the pretext of seeing how she has grown, and she stares into space without reacting, and then calmly steps into hot boiling water, which does not affect her.

She manages to find the gentle heart in the body of a savage that Khal Drogo was, and she loved him with all her heart. She emerges as a true Dothraki, and comes out as Khaleesi.

She is repelled by the Dothraki way of looting and raping women, and reprimands them when they do so in the land of Lhazar.

Mirri Maz Duur’s conniving mind leads to the death of her unborn son, and then the cunning lamb woman tricks her into believing that she can save the life of a severely injured Khal, only to leave him in a vegetative state, not fit to lead or rule. Daenerys is destroyed inside, but she survives. And a ruler must know how to overcome personal loss and carry on.

She kills Khal, whom she loved so dearly, with her own hand. She does so to save him from the humiliation of living in a vegetative state. She frees him from the bonds of this fake life even though it causes her so much pain to do so.

She boldly steps with her dragon eggs into the pyre she gets created for Khal, and where she had ordered the vile Mirri to be burned alive, she herself comes out unscathed, with the hatched new-born dragons, thus rightfully earning the name, “Mother of Dragons”, and a true fireborn.

She encounters yet another betrayal at the city of Qarth, yet overcomes all with her dragon babies. She plunders to buy herself a ship and she plans meticulously. The rightful leader would have to be a great strategist, aware that to win she will have to do things which history may not forgive her for.

She frees the slaves of Astapor, and commands the Unsullied to follow her as free men, if they still desire to, thus earning their trust and respect. A true queen, rules by respect, rather than by instilling fear in the hearts of her subjects.

She becomes the “Mhysa”, which means mother, for all her subjects and freed slaves, who respect and love her no less. She gradually increases her following and the numbers in her army, with the advice of her trusted men, and her own goodwill.

Her love for her dragon children is tested when she has lock them up for the good of her people to whom free dragons pose a grave threat. Yet she does that, for the good of the people.

She becomes the first in a century to ride her dragon son Drogon, and fly away when faced with death at the hands of Sons of the Harpy, the underground insurgency group opposing and fighting Daenerys’s rule over Meereen.

The ending of Season 5 sure left us in a dilemma as to what will be the fate of one of the strongest contenders to the Iron Throne. However, knowing Daenerys, we hope she will come out unscathed from this sticky situation as well, and will fight the odds.
