Indian television has reached a phase of an all-time low. With bahus washing laptops using soap and water and innumerable close-ups to prove that the disclosure made is indeed scandalous, it’s a wonder that our brains have not exploded. We all gravitate towards English sitcoms for a reason. However, we do have various gems hidden in the glorious golden past of Indian television, which we can watch again! In case this post doesn’t convince the channels to re-run these, then we urge everyone, young and old to look these up on the Internet and watch them.

Sarabhai vs Sarabhai

Oh the sarcasm and middle-class vs high-class trifles that took place. This saas-bahu saga definitely did not need any dramatic pauses and sounds to build up. Nor did it require cray makeup with peacock feathers to show a negative character.

Dekh Bhai Dekh

Another family drama, this one was a beloved show of the 90s, back then when there were no vamps in the families, and three generations could live happily with everyday dramas tickling your funny bones every now and then.

Tu Tu Main Main

Probably the best saas-bahu series that has been aired till date. Supriya Pilgaonkar and Reema Lagoo just won our hearts with their endearing acts in this one. Their love-hate relationship is something which everyone can (hopefully) relate to.

Hip Hip Hurray

Well, we can be happy about this one at least. The crew is all set to launch a younger and fresher season of this beloved school drama. Though we still love the original, it would be a breath of fresh air amidst all the Naagin’s and Sasural Simar Ka’s, nonetheless.

Miley Jab Hum Tum

This one is a fairly latest addition, and we just loved the sweet love stories unfolding amidst the chaos of a high profile Mumbai college.

Left Right Left

The lives of cadets and captains at KMA was sure enthralling, and we were too happy to be a part of it, even if just for half an hour everyday.

Fauji

Watch it for the fact that you have an endearing SRK in his debut role as the charming cadet. This is one old series which can be watched as a precap to Left Right Left.

Flop Show

Trust Jaspal Bhatti to just leave us rolling on the floor laughing with his innocent antics in this comedy show. This one can bring tears to joy in our eyes, even now, years after its first telecast. And there were no tasteless jokes, no wife bashing and no men dressed as women, just pure humour.

Office Office

What do you get when you have great talents like Pankaj Kapoor and Sanjay Mishra together in a frame? A comedy which can make you tickle with the usual woes of normal life. And again without men dressed up as women. How did they manage it?

Family No. 1

Two single parents fall in love with each other, get married and helplessly try to convince their children to come to terms with living together. This TV version of Yours, Mine & Ours will have you falling in love with the characters.

Just Mohabbat

The chronicles of Jai had us all in splits. Somehow, we could all relate to his life and problems, and of course, the pressure to cope up in the age of adolescence. Don’t darofy, Simply karofy, Just Mohabbat!

Hum Paanch

5 sisters and one hapless father trying to cope up with their antics. Though it was criticized too for the daughters being disrespectful to their father, but on the whole it was loved by all and sundry for the sheer comic relief it brought to our screens.

Did you receive bouts of nostalgia? We certainly did. Which are the ones that you want a rerun of? Do let us know in the comments below.
