Today is World Environment Day and of course you must be thinking, what’s in there for me. Other than staring at the news that say pollution levels has gone up and swaach bharat abhiyan,  we don’t think we can contribute much. But that’s where the problem is. Helping the environment is not complicated, not boring and definitely not complicated. Here’re some ways to give back to the environment in your own cool way.

1. Thank a tree

Thank a tree

Whenever you are passing by a tree you should thank a tree for providing you free oxygen and because your life directly depends on them. As you walk down, try to plant few plants every day. If nothing else, it will give you something nice to look at with your cup of coffee.

2. Start cycling

Start cycling

Maybe you are thinking this is old fashion, but let me tell you that you should start cycling because this is the initial step towards the development of the environment. When it comes to cycling rather than using bikes, it helps to reduce 90% of greenhouse gas emissions and also cut down on your weight loss program.

3. Donate food

Donate food

If you always end up trashing up a large amount of food every day, you should start donating your food to a donate kitchen. Fortunately, there are people who will appreciate your donation and value it. This is a new trend that’s catching up in India. See what one person has done and how awesome is the idea.

4. Compost pile

Another cool way to give back to an environment is making a compost pile may be in the back yard of your house. Composting means recycling nutrients back into the ecosystem that helps to enrich your soil and also improve the ecosystem. If you’re living in a society, just share this idea as a common community effort.

5. Reduce the use of pesticide

You should work towards reducing the use of pesticide in your area because they are unfortunately harming the environment and are also harmful to an individual. It is said that children absorb pesticide sooner than anyone else which may prove harmful later.

6. Learn to use leftovers

Learn to use leftovers

You should learn to use leftover foods and try to make it new and creative a day after. Try to experiment new dishes with last night’s leftover meal instead of simply trashing them every time. Best solution for those ‘khana me kya hai?’ questions that come on the dinner table.

7. Avoid using plastic bags

Avoid using plastic bags

Ban of plastic bags is already making its rounds. It’s banned in Delhi and also in other metropolitan. But just for mere convenience, we prefer plastic bags. But why are we not moving to the cool jute bags or cloth ones. We can surely do this much.

8. Take care while baking

Bakers be aware and instead of considering using new disposable aluminium tin every time, you should switch to using ceramic baking pans that can be reused and does not affect the environment as well. This is also true for those aluminum wraps we use to pack tiffins. Try reusable zip locks. Though plastic the wastage is reduced to a large extent.

9. Car Pool

Come together

Whether it is the Bla -bla car or other car pooling options available, this is the best way to commute and reduce the traffic stress. And with the odd-even concept trying to make a comeback and congestion on the road rising and of course steep fuel costs, this makes total sense.

10. Gardening

Gardening

A cute little garden, we all like it but looks quite time consuming right. How about starting with the simple ones. I am sure it is something you’ll take pride in and of course you’re helping the environment.
