Move over Statue of Liberty, India will soon have a statue that is going to be twice as tall as the American icon of liberty. In the process of being built is a statue dedicated to the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel; a statue that will be erected in his home state of Gujarat at the site of the Narmada Sarovar, within the reservoir created by the colossal dam built on River Narmada. Currently the base of the statue is coming up.
The statue will be 597 feet tall
It will be called the Statue of Unity and will be 182 metres or 597 feet tall. When completed the statue will be placed on a river island in the Narmada Sarovar and will be connected to an amusement park and garden via a bridge.
It will be a 100 ft taller than the current tallest statue
The statue of the Buddha at the Spring Temple in China is about 153 mts or about 502 feet. So the Statue of Unity will be nearly one hundred feet taller than the second tallest statue in the world.
It will be twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty in Staten Island, New York is about 93 mt tall (about 305 ft). This statue will be nearly double that height.
It will also be taller than the highest Jain statue
Recently completed, the gigantic statue of Rishabhdeva in Maharashtra, stands at 108 feet and has entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest Jain Statue in the world.
We will see the statue in place within two years
The statue will be in place by April 2018. Currently about 700 workers in China are working on the statue at the world’s largest foundry; the Jiangxi Tongqing Metal Handicrafts Company in the Nanchang province of China.
