10 Bollywood Actresses Who Left Acting Career On A High Note

Mandakini

This former Bollywood actress started her career with a bang and became an overnight superstar with the film   Ram Teri Ganga Maili in 1985. Her popularity continued with movies like Dance Dance, Kahan Hai Kanoon and Pyaar Karke Dekho. However, she quit the industry after her marriage in 1990 with a former Buddhist monk, Dr. Kagyur T. Rinpoche Thakur, with whom she has a son named Rabbil and a daughter Rabze Innaya Thakur. This was the high-point of her career when she left. Nonetheless, she did try to make a comeback after 6 years with a couple of music albums but they could not put the spotlight back on her. 

Asin

With flicks like Ghajini, Ready, Housefull 2 and Bol Bachchan, she instantly became one of the most demanded actresses in Bollywood. But then soon, she got married to Micromax Co-founder Rahul Sharma in January 2016. She has been focussing on her personal life since then. 

Sonali Bendre

She rose to fame with films like Diljale, Bhai, Sarfarosh, Zakhm, Duplicate, Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United, Tera Mera Saath Rahen and Anahat. She decided to leave her Bollywood career in 2004, to give full priority to her personal life, especially her son. This was a very brave decision for her since her Bollywood career was at its peak, and yet she chose family over career. But as a smart move, though she rejected many Bollywood offers but never left appearing on reality TV shows. 

Shilpa Shetty

Similarly, after appearing in many blockbuster movies such as Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Dhadkan, Phir Milenge and Garv: Pride And Honour, she took a break to get married to businessman Raj Kundra in 2009. She is a busy mother these days but appears on reality TV shows like Super Dancer and several other food and yoga videos.  

Meenakshi Sheshadri

She was one of the most popular actresses in the 90s and left a successful career after she got married to an investment banker Harish Mysore. Currently, she lives in Plano, Texas with her family and there she teaches dance forms like Bharatanatyam Kathak and Odissi.

Gayatri Joshi

She became a household name after getting featured in a Bollywood movie, Swadesh alongside Shah Rukh Khan in 2004. She also received the Best Female Debut Award for this. In 2005, she officially got married to Vikas Oberoi, the Managing Director of Oberoi Constructions and decided to focus on her personal life.

Bhagyashree

She is best known for her debut lead role in the film Maine Pyar Kiya, for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. At the age of 19, she got married and broke many hearts. Although, she did made her comeback from television with the TV serial Laut Aao Trisha aired on Life OK in 2014. But this break didn't worked out for her too much.

Saira Bano

At the age of 16 she made her acting debut to Hindi films in 1961 with the movie Junglee, starring Rajkumar. She was the third highest paid actress in Hindi Cinema from 1963 to 1969 and the fourth highest paid actress from 1971 to 1976. After few years of her marriage with Dilip Kumar she bids farewell to the Bollywood industry.

Neetu Singh

She is most remembered for appearing in many successful films through the 1970s and 1980s like Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Khel Khel Mein, Kabhie Kabhie and so on. In 1980, she married Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor and left the film industry at the peak of her career to focus on her married life though she did make a comeback with acclaimed film DO Dooni Chaar.

Nargis

She is recognised as one of the greatest actresses in the history of Hindi cinema. She is best known for her role in the movie  Mother India for which she won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She decided to focus on her married life after tying the knot with Suni Dutt.
