Why Telegram Is the New Headache for Mark Zuckerberg

Do you know that WhatsApp has decided to change its terms of service and privacy policies? Well turns out that people have not taken at all kindly to this decision by the company to share people’s WhatsApp information with Facebook. Social media has seen widespread anger expressed and a resolve to move to other messaging services such as Telegram and Signal. Here’s what happened:

Data mining

People are just really wary of the way that Facebook tracks user activity and uses their information.

Privacy?

Or lack thereof?

Some have already accepted the new terms

Many WhatsApp users just clicked the AGREE button without checking to see what they were agreeing to.

RIP WhatsApp?

With so many other options available for users, many have decided not to fall in with the plans of Mark Zuckerberg’s company.

Bye WhatsApp

People have decided to migrate to other messaging apps; platforms such as Hike, Signal and Telegram.

WhatsApp v Telegram

People have been comparing WhatsApp with Telegram in particular and many find that the features of the latter are better.

Or Signal

This is another app that is gaining what WhatsApp is losing.

Individuals and groups

People are used to WhatsApp, but they can as easily get used to other messaging apps.

Turning to Telegram

People are choosing Telegram over WhatsApp.

It’s a war!

There is keen competition among app creators and messaging services to attract more and more users.

Meanwhile over at Telegram

The WhatsApp imbroglio has sparked unprecedented interest in Telegram. This is what the official Twitter handle posted. Schadenfreude much?

What should I do?

People asked what they could do now since so many already agreed to the new terms and conditions automatically. One even asked if they should ‘burn my phone’. This was Telegram’s reply.

Some said ‘impress me’

OK so we’ve left WhatsApp, said some users. But why should we join Telegram?

Self advertisement?

Some accused Telegram of advertising its app. Telegram had this tongue in cheek reply.

This annoying Telegram feature

Right now, those users that have joined Telegram have this grouse against the platform: every time a contact joins, the user receives a notification.

Maybe?

Right now, some of us are in a wait-and-watch mode. Maybe WhatsApp will reverse its policy because of the backlash received for their new terms and conditions/privacy policy? Meanwhile Signal and Telegram are not complaining.
