The Tale Of The Fading Glory Of Previous Olympic Stadiums

The Olympics are one world wide sports event that takes a lot of preparation and time with each host country trying to build one of its kind Olympic stadium. But what happens to these state of the art stadiums, once the Olympics are over. Take a look at these previous Olympic stadiums and the tale of their fading glory.

1. The Panathenaic stadium

First modern Olympic games in 1896, was held at Panathenaic stadium. The Panathenaic stadium is still the only stadium in the world that is entirely made of marble. It is a multi-purpose stadium in Athens, Greece and one of the main attractions of Athens.

 

2. Berlin’s Olympic village

A beautiful Olympiastadion was built for the 1936 Olympics and was later relocated and some parts of it were put into use. The 1936 Summer Olympics site is a crumbling remnant of sportsmanship in this village.

 

3. Olympic Stadium, Amsterdam

Olympic Stadium, Amsterdam was built as the main stadium for the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. It was also used for soccer and motorcycle racing. The stadium went for renovation in 1996 and even today, events are being hosted here.

 

4. The Hellinikon Olympic Canoe/Kayak Slalom Centre

The Hellinikon Olympic Canoe/Kayak Slalom Centre is located in the Hellinicon Olympic Complex in Greece. This was built to host 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, which dried out later. Due to the poor economic condition in Greece, the other venues have been abandoned.

 

5. Sarajevo Olympic village

The image shown below is the image of a hotel built for the 1984 Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo, the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. During Bosnian War in the 1990s, this area was destroyed with some other venues as well.

 

6. Stade Olympique Yves-du-Manoir

The Stade Olympique Yves-du-Manoir is a rugby, track and association football stadium in Colombes, near Paris, France. This stadium was used as the main venue for the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris.

 

7. Centennial Olympic Stadium

With the 85,000-seat main stadium, 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta was hosted at the Centennial Olympic Stadium. This stadium was opened on May 18, 1996, and the cost of construction was nearly around $207 million.

 

8. Nippon Budokan

Majority constructed for 964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Nippon Budokan went forward to invite people from all around the world to do live concerts and recording. It was later tagged at Live at Budokan”.
