A while back we heard how Dubai is to be home to the Middle East’s biggest Chinatown. We also then had reports of the world-renowned Museum of Illusions coming to Dubai. In addition, we have a whole lot of spectacular theme parks that offer the most amazing experiences to visitors and malls that offer the best shopping in the world. Another feather in Dubai's cap is to be a sports mall. Here is what we know so far:
This Dubai based company Viva City had made the announcement of a unique sports mall called Sports Society that would be built in Dubai. The company has been involved in constructing office buildings, residential complexes, retail centres, and hotels for over five decades now.
While Dubai has a great number of malls with stores that cater to people's sporting requirements, this will be a space that will cater exclusively to sports lovers. The mall will feature retail outlets of all major sporting brands from the UAE as well as international brands. The total area of the mall will be equivalent to about 12 football pitches, making it the biggest such mall in the world.
This will be a place for athletes and those who enjoy playing sport as well as those who enjoy watching sport. The three floor high mall will feature massive LED display screens installed throughout the mall that will relay top sporting events. Visitors can enjoy viewing sports and also take advantage of the planned cafes and restaurants that will come up in the mall.
The mall is not merely a place for people to shop sporting goods and watch live games. The mall will also host various sporting events and dedicated spaces will be allocated for various different activities. One of the biggest attractions of the sports mall will be a full NHL regulation size ice rink. This will be a frozen surface cooled down to -5℃ for ice skating and ice hockey enthusiasts.
The construction of the Sports Society is already underway and proceeding full swing. According to Viva City's head of design, Edgar Bove, the construction is proceeding as per schedule and budget. This in spite of the fact that there are several challenges since this edifice is designed to be a kind of cultural icon that delivers the complete sports experience.
The overall construction of the mall will be completed by the end of 2019 and the Sports Society mall is expected to open its doors in the first quarter of 2020 in the Mirdif area of Dubai; well known for its upscale malls and residential villas.
