The games are also about the triumph of the human spirit and about individual or team talent bringing glory to entire nations. Each time, the Olympics also tells us amazing stories of triumph over adversity, and about the underprivileged making a stellar show. This time is no different.

There will be about 50,000 volunteers at Rio and about one fifth of those are from various different countries; 156 countries in all. This makes the Rio Games the most culturally diverse programme of its kind. These volunteers are people who just wanted to be a part of the games any way they could be and will be helping at check-in desks, bus stops, in luggage support, at medical stations and giving directions or assisting media queries.
