UAE Visa Updates You Should Know About

There are different regulations governing visas to come into the UAE. These regulations are subject to changes and new developments as well. If you are a citizen of the UAE, or if you're an expat living and working here or even if you're someone planning to visit, these Visa changes may apply to you:

MOU with Mexico

The UAE and Mexico have exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding with regard to Visas. Any citizens of either country, with a valid passport will no longer need a Visa to go to the other country. From 31 October, UAE citizens will not need a visa to get into Mexico and vice versa.

“Historic”

Representatives of both nations have hailed the signing of the MOU and feel that it will be mutually beneficial. The MOU was the result of sustained bilateral efforts by both countries. Emiratis who have business interests in Mexico or wish to travel there for leisure, no longer have to apply or pay for a visa as long as they have a current passport.

Similar exemptions for Serbia and Paraguay

In September this year, on the sidelines of the 73rd UN General Assembly meet, an agreement was signed between Serbia and the UAE that citizens of both countries would not need visas to visit the other country. Earlier such an agreement was also signed with Paraguay. So now UAE citizens can travel to Serbia and Paraguay without visas and the citizens of these countries will also not need visas to come into the UAE.

Visas of retired expat

It was announced a while back, that expats working in the UAE will be permitted to stay on for an extended period of time after the retirement. This would apply to retired individuals over the age of 55 for an extended period of five years.

Subject to conditions

The visa extension would be subject to certain conditions: expats can stay on if they have invested in property worth or exceeding Dh 2 million or if they have savings of Dh 1 million and above. If expats have an active income of Dh 20,000 and above per month, they would be granted the extended visa; with the possibility of renewal after the five year extension.

UAE visa to cost Dh 124 for expats in Oman

Expats living and working in Oman will be able to get visas for Dubai for between 13 and 20 Omani Riyals. These visas can be obtained for a period of 48 to 93 hours. This is for transit passengers with confirmed onward tickets. The individual would have to show a confirmed hotel booking in the UAE to get this visa as well.
