Moroccan Cultural Extravaganza Abu Dhabi – What’s In Store

The culture of Morocco is a rich and ancient one; known for the colourful people, the wonderful cuisine, handicraft, music, the spices and more. Those in the UAE, wishing to sample some of this now have the chance to do so at the Moroccan Cultural Extravaganza that is currently on in Abu Dhabi. Here is what you can expect:

Reinforcing ties

The event is organised by the Ministry Of Presidential Affairs and has the blessings of the top leadership of the emirates including the President, the crown prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Prime Minister. The event has the patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, King of Morocco and is meant to reinforce historical ties between the two countries.

On till the end of April

The event offers free entry and is on till 30th April. Visitors can visit the ADNEC (Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre) Hall 1 & 2 from 3 to 8 PM to enjoy a taste of the country and its culture.

Museum of Moroccan Heritage

This is one of the biggest attractions of the event. It features artefacts and antiques that are displayed outside of Morocco for the first time. They include Islamic pottery, manuscript, oil lambs, horse riding accessories and even ancient jewellery. The event also features traditional music and other cultural performances by various Moroccan performers who will present spiritual and tribal Moroccan musical performances.

Fashion and architecture

The simplicity of authentic Moroccan architecture is visible in traditional facades created out of carved wood & glaze and copper.  

Handicraft

Talented craftspersons will demonstrate intricate processes such as brasseward, saddle making, jewellery, embroidery, raffia shoes, Cherbil, Tazwaqt, engravings on wood sculpture, pottery as well as the famous amlou, as well as henna tattoo.

The food

Visitors can enjoy cooking demos that show how to make traditional Moroccan dishes. Skilled culinary experts will reveal the secrets to traditional recipes as well as contemporary preparations.

Other attractions

The youth corner, the play “Lala Mannana’s Daughters” as well as a special fashion show to showcase the unique fashion of the region and other daily programmes are other attractions for visitor to enjoy at the Morocco in Abu Dhabi Art & Cultural event.
