Inside A Fake Baby Bump and Other Ways of Smuggling Contraband

People can be very inventive when it comes to breaking the law – particularly smuggling. The fact that people made so many films about smuggling and smugglers probably has something to do with this. Recently a woman tried smuggling drugs by creating a fake baby bump. This was innovative; as were so many other attempts at smuggling:

Cannabis inside a fake baby bump

It wasn’t a baby bump, it was four kg of cannabis in the form of 15 bricks. A starch based paste held the subterfuge in place but the woman and her companion were foiled in their smuggling attempt by a police checkpoint.

Smuggling live birds

A man was caught at customs at Miami Airport for trying to smuggle birds – nine of them. Six were in a fanny pack and three were concealed in the groin area. Poor birds.

Inside the folds of skin along the bellies of puppies

International drug dealers surgically implanted bags of liquid cocaine inside the folds of skin along the bellies of puppies. While the smugglers were caught, the sad part is that most of the puppies died.

Inside ‘carrots’

They seemed carrots but they were not. It was a bunch of plastic fashioned to look like carrots with one ton of marijuana concealed inside. A tractor full of these was caught at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge cargo facility in Texas.

Cash in croissants

Since carrying large sums of cash over different jurisdictions is restricted, these guys decided to smuggle the cash – by baking them in rolls inside foil, inside croissants.

Gecko in a book

Not sure whether this was an endangered species or the guy just wanted to escape detection of a pet he wanted to carry along on his flight.

Frogs in film canister

Exotic frogs from Panama were smuggled inside film canisters to avoid detection. They were caught by Belgian police, however.

Guns in toys

The smugglers were trying to take the mickey out of everyone by smuggling guns inside stuffed toys. They didn’t succeed.

250 animals

Argentine authorities apprehended a man trying to smuggle as many as 250 exotic animals including 10 boa constrictors. If he had been successful in smuggling he still wouldn’t have made any money because he had stupidly packed the poor animals inside labelled plastic bags!

Smuggling person

She was trying to smuggle her partner out of jail – in a suitcase following a conjugal visit. Did she really think they wouldn’t notice?
