Hiring From Home Is Trending - Here’s Why

If jobs are on your mind you're not alone – all of India is struggling. According to reports, unemployment has been rising steadily from 2017 onward. Urban unemployment rose from 8.21% to 9.3 % and rural unemployment rate rose from 6.44% to 7.28% between November and December 2021. #HiringFromHome was trending recently. Given the exceedingly stark situation, this was far from surprising.

Grim situation

The rising unemployment trend has seen an alarming but steady decline from 2017-18 when the unemployment rate was 4.7%  and is now over 9% in urban areas, so clearly, things are grim.

Work from Home

WFH has become the new normal and maybe this is a good way to conserve productive time and resources that are otherwise spent in the daily commute, unnecessary meetings and so on.

Hiring from home

Since people are now able to work from home they are able to attend interviews online and get hired virtually as well.

#HiringFromHome

Turns out this is a marketing hashtag trended for the promotion of a startup hiring portal that puts job seekers in touch with employers so both parties can chat and decide on hires.

Again

Companies such as this app for facilitating hiring commonly look to create online visibility with the help of hashtags such as these.  #HiringFromHome was trending for several hours.

Promoted

Social media influencers with large followings will often promote such hashtags so that more and more people will know about such services and agencies.

Multitasking

Those looking for work as well as those looking to hire people can multitask – take care of chores at home while chatting with verified candidates who may be potential hires.

True for a lot of us

Since I work from home and online I do also have one or more shopping portals open – for the occasional dopamine hit to intersperse the tasks lined up for the day. So this can make sense too.

People are hiring

And also looking to get hired.

Like this

There are many others looking to hire as well… as the cricket memes showed.

Just marketing

For a startup hiring app.

Because jobs are a huge problem

The fact that #HiringFromHome was trending as well, perhaps points to the acuity of the problem?

Meanwhile

YouTuber Neha Singh Rathore made this satirical video on the topic of unemployment in the country. With unemployment being at its highest in 45 years, this is painful for society at large and she draws attention to an acute problem in her own humorous way.
