Fireworks and More – What To Do on UAE National Day

UAE National Day is unlike a lot of other countries who celebrate their day of independence from colonial rule on a particular day. This national holiday celebrates the union of the seven emirates that make up the nation; on 2nd December each year. This observance dates back to 1971; which was years after the British withdrew from the area. It is a joyous occasion and you may find free parking in some areas as you head out over the holiday. A significant day for all citizens and residents of the UAE, here is what you can do to mark the occasion:

View the parade

The parade on Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard is always a big draw each year. There are floats, entertainers, supercars and bikes that are part of the parade which is an annual event.

Enjoy the fireworks

Spectacular fireworks mark the national day each year. This time, you can enjoy these at La Mer in Dubai on 1st and 2nd December. The Beach, JBR will also have fireworks displays from 8 PM on the same dates. At Dubai festival city there will be two displays of fireworks on the 2nd: one at 8 PM and the second at 10 PM. Al Seef also hosts a fireworks show at 8.30.

Performances/cultural activities

You can enjoy free concerts at La Mer: Fouad Abdul Wahed performs after the fireworks on 1st December and Mohammed Al Shehhi performs on 2nd. The firecracker show at Al Seef is also followed by cultural activities.

Week long celebrations at the Global Village

The Global Village will have fireworks, a parade and extended working hours. There will even be a supercar parade by the Dubai police.

Laser show at Dubai Festival City

The Dubai Festival City Mall isn’t just about great shopping, it also has a newly installed light show. Titled IMAGINE, this is a laser, light and art installation show. For the national day, the colours of the flag will be displayed across the water of the bay.

Shop till you drop

Malls in Dubai and elsewhere will offer some great deals, beautiful décor, live entertainment and great dining options over the National Day weekend. The Dubai mall or the Mall of the Emirates are some of the best options.

Head to the beach

Now with the weather turning more hospitable, the beach would be a great option for the UAE National Day: there are great eating options, live acts, fun beach activities and sport and more. Kite Beach, La Mer, or JBR are some of the best options.
