Delhi Pollution Making Life Miserable? Here Are a Few Reasons to Smile

The pollution in Delhi may be awful; exacerbating illnesses and rising to life threatening levels. People are mindful of the fact that Delhi is the only place where you have to go inside the house to get fresh air! However, social media jokesters always manage to create humour even in the darkest of situations. Here is a look at some of the funnies about Delhi smog that have come out of the humour mill recently:

A spin on names

Well known localities in Delhi are presented here with a smoggy spin: Lutyen's Delhi, Hauz Khas, Red Fort, Chandni Chowk and Dhaula Kuan now have these new names.

“Holidays for pollution”

This one is a favourite on climate change activists – the play on the Hindi word ‘anarth’ and ‘un-earth’. They tacked on a bit here about how it has now become necessary to curtail activities because of the pollution.

Unity in diversity

Also apparently unity in distress!

Not even superman is safe

Usually he is dashing about saving people and preventing mishaps. However he is defenceless against the attack of Delhi’s unhealthy air quality. Here he looks less like superman and more like poor cancer ridden Mukesh in the anti-smoking commercials.

Aishwarya and Aishwarya

Yes it is same person rendered magically unrecognizable by the Delhi pollution!

Snapchat filters? Nah!

We have some authentic filters that will do the job so much more effectively!

Natural filters

If you’ve watched a movie in the theatre or even TV, you’ve seen these incredibly depressing anti-smoking ads where a sepulchral voice warns you of untold horrors. Delhi-wallas are currently living in a gas chamber anyway so a warning is more or less meaningless!

Where there is a meme…

…There is Rajini! Rajinikanth may be far away in Chennai, but of course he had to have something to do with the smog!

The cricket analogy

Seeing how crazy Indians are about cricket, everything can be conflated with cricket; everything has a Tendulkar/Kohli analogy.

Face mask anyone?

Many are wearing masks to filter out the worst of the pollution; some more heavy duty than others, apparently!

It’s true

Delhi is either brutally hot or chillingly cold – its habitable only for about two months of the year!

Oh the irony!

There is some deep irony in the idea that a ban on the hookah is being considered when merely living in Delhi is like being an active smoker.

THIS pre-wedding shoot

There is a couple with a sense of humour: rather than striking romantic poses around Delhi's monuments, here is a slice of life pic!
