Exotic, Off the Urban Track – What Makes Hatta A Must-Visit

Hatta, UAE is more than just the mountain getaway for people fed up of the heat and humidity of the city. The picturesque and historic Hatta exclave, with its ancient fort, heritage village, dam and exciting activities has much more to offer visitors. Here are some of the main reasons why a visit to Hatta may be your next trip out of town:

Stunning location

Hatta is uniquely located; a part of the UAE that juts into and is surrounded by Oman. It is an exclave up in the Hajar Mountains which is surrounded by some of the most beautiful, rugged, wild scenery.

Rock pools

Heads up: you will need your passport or your Emirati ID to visit these since most of them are in Oman. There are beautiful streams of fresh water and rock pools, narrow rock passages and more to be explored here.

Mountain trails

In and around Hatta are mountain trails that can be great to hike along. These are popular with families and other groups for camping as well; particularly when the weather is cooler.

The Hatta Dam

One of the main attractions here is the dam and its beautiful water reservoir. The place is popular with kayakers as well as those who visit just to enjoy the scenic location of the reservoir nestled in the mountains.

The heritage village

Painstakingly reconstructed heritage village gives visitors insight into a lifestyle very different from our modern way of life. The 17 houses with furnishings, original sculpture, traditional weaponry, documents and illustrations give visitors a glimpse into a traditional way of life. You can also check out the defensive tower and the traditional water system of the heritage village.

The Hatta Fort Hotel

The Hatta Fort hotel is a four star property with chalet style rooms, stunning mountain views, and entertainment as well as conferencing options. The rock feature pools, archery, mini-golf, and tennis are some of the options available for guests.

Dune bashing

If you want some thrills, head out for some wadi bashing or dune bashing as it is also known. Buggies and 4x4 land cruisers let you navigate sand dunes, dried river beds and mountain trails and perhaps some Bedou villages as well.
