Seen The New Charlies Angels Song? It Has Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande and Lana Del Ray

Did you know Charlie's Angels is being made yet again? It is and it releases in a couple of months on 15th November. People are excited to see how Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska interpret this story. Also causing much excitement is the news of Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande and Lana Del Ray coming together for the first time for a song. Now in my own musical wisdom I may not think much of the song itself. But it is certainly a huge coup of sorts: getting three pop music priestesses together for a single song.

Don’t Call Me Angel (Charlie’s Angels)

Right from the get go, it is an Ariana Grande song (and you’ve heard one Ariana Grande song, you’ve heard a lot of them). Miley Cyrus looks grunge and edgy Lana Del Rey looks pretty and sings in that breathy sort of voice that some love and some find highly irritating.

Fans loved it of course

I may not be an Ariana Grande fan, but there are millions and millions who are. They loved the song.

Message?

Some fans of Miley Cyrus read some symbolism into the video. Apparently her singing don’t call me angel has something to do with her breakup with Liam Hemsworth. Clearly it is the job of celebrity watchers will find meaning where none may exist.

Miley’s fierce avatar

There is some frankly abusive violence there; which in no way is empowering or liberating. However, people really seemed to like this tough, fierce and very edgy Miley Cyrus in the video.

Fans of Lana Del Ray

Like I said, there are a lot of fans of that breathy, whispery sort of voice.  I have no quarrel with them --- people are free to have their own (misguided) views about what constitutes good vocals.

Impactful

A lot of people thought that the Charlie’s Angel song is really impactful and referred to another social media sensation that is slightly less so.

In case you didn’t know

So the other internet sensation is the Shawn Mendez-Camilla Cabello kiss which people are dissing quite liberally right now.

No 1

Now I may think that the song is fairly run of the mill, derivative and forgettable, but what do I know (there are millions who would cheerfully throttle me for saying so).

Some were like ‘Awww!’

Some liked to think that this was a collaboration born out of friendship. How nice for them.

For some reason

Many seem to think that this song supports gay rights (whatever, like I said people will read what they want into things). Some also feel that this one will become an anthem of sorts; a song that ‘saves pop music’ (at the risk of repeating myself whatever!).

Laklustre

That’s what I said! These girls are talented and this is all they could come up with?

Awful

I know I used words like said ‘forgettable’ and ‘derivative’ for the song. Some were less kind; they minced no words and came right out with ‘awful’ for the song. Bottom line, if the fans think this is a No 1 worthy song, it will be a No. 1 song. Musical merit? Who that?

In case you haven’t seen it yet...
