See What Ranveer Singh Did for Gully Boy and Other Dramatic Body Transformations Actors Underwent

Dedicated actors who are willing to do anything that it takes to be authentic to their craft, think nothing of putting on or putting off weight. Actors have been known to completely alter the way they look simply so that they can faithfully essay the role they have taken on. Aamir Khan has long amazed us by his various, and often extreme transformations but he is not alone. Ranveer Singh underwent a fairly dramatic transformation recently, as have others cited below:

Ranveer Singh for Gully Boy

He had previously done it after finishing Lootera, when he lost weight and created a spectacularly chiselled body for Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela. Now after sporting a bulky, muscular look for Padmaavat, he has shed kilos of muscle and a significant amount of facial hair for Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy.

Ranbir Kapoor for Sanjay Dutt biopic

The naturally lean Ranbir Kapoor has been known to create the muscular look before for some of his movies. Now with him slated to play the lead role in the Sanjay Dutt biopic, he is packing on the muscle, changing his walk and his mannerisms as well.

Hrithik Roshan

He has always been one of Bollywood’s hunkiest actors. But there was a time when a slipped disk and unhealthy food choices made him pack on the kilos. He famously went from being the guy on the left to the guy on the right for his movie Krrish 3.

Aamir for Ghajini

He was the empathetic, inspiring teacher in Taare Zameen Par and he then had to create a completely different look for Ghajini. The body, the hair, the angst… it was difficult to reconcile the two roles as having been played by the same person.

Aamir for Dangal

Within the course of one single movie, he went from his regular self to that guy on the left and then on to that guy on the right. In Dangal, he had to play a fit young wrestler as well as the portly, ageing mentor to his talented young daughters.

SRK for Om Shanti Om, Happy New Year

Shah Rukh Khan was always the romantic hero; occasionally the psychotic antihero. But for Om Shanti Om, he decided to create that the ripped, muscled look. Later he once again transformed himself into his role in Happy New Year.

Salman Khan after MPK

In his first big hit, Maine Pyar Kiya, Salman Khan was positively scrawny and the high-waisted pants of the time did not help! But soon he created a brawny, muscular look for himself that became his trademark, more or less.

Farhan Akhtar for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

He was playing the part of one of India’s best-known athletes so he had to look the part. Farhan Akhtar grew his hair to look like a Sardar (Sikh) and completely changed his body for what was arguably the performance of his life till date!

Bhumi Pednekar for Dum Lagake Haisha

She famously put on 25 kilos for her role in Dum Lagake Haisha, a movie which required her to be overweight. She then lost some 27 kilos to come back to her regular weight.

Sonakshi Sinha and many others

She is still considered to be built along generous lines in an industry where women are under huge pressure to look a certain way. But this is nothing to how she looked before movies happened to Sonakshi Sinha. Actors such as Sonam Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Parineeti Chopra have all undergone similar transformations from fat to fit, of course for movie roles.
