Salute – What We Know about the Next Aamir Khan Venture

When we hear about a new Aamir Khan cinematic project, we all sit up and take notice don’t we? His films entertain, amaze, provoke thought and more. If his Taare Zameen Par informed us all about dyslexia, his 3 Idiots made us laugh and also take a serious look at our educational system. Where his PK made us take a long hard look at Godmen and religious institutions in general, his Dangal inspired us, delighted us and made us cheer! So what’s next for Aamir?

According to reports, Aamir Khan will next be seen involved with a biopic – Salute – which is to be about Rakesh Sharma; India’s first ever astronaut. Aamir Khan had starred in a biopic before the runaway success Dangal; when he played the revolutionary Mangal Pandey in the 2005 film Mangal Pandey: The Rising.

Along with Siddharth Roy Kapur and Ronnie Screwvala, Aamir Khan will also be co-producing the film. The film will be directed by Mahesh Mathai (he had directed Bhopal Express in 1999).

Now 68 years old, he was a test pilot of the Indian Air Force; commissioned as an officer in 1970. He was chosen to be a part of the Intercosmos programme of the former Soviet Union and became the first Indian to travel to space in 1984.

It is rumored that Fatima Sana Shaikh, who played his daughter in Dangal, may be playing Aamir Khan’s wife in the movie about Rakesh Sharma. 

Chinese audiences, including Chinese President Xi Jinping are reportedly enamored by Aamir Khan’s last cinematic offering. Apparently the movie connected with the people in China in quite an unprecedented manner!

The release date of Salute is not announced yet. Aamir Khan will next be seen in Secret Superstar. The story is about an aspiring singer and Aamir Khan will be seen doing a cameo as a music director in the film.

Thugs of Hindostan is another project Aamir Khan is currently involved in. He will be seen alongside Amitabh Bachchan in the film the first time that the two will be seen to share screen space in a film.
