Released to Coincide with Valentine’s Day These New Ads Are On Point

For a lot of people, Valentine’s Day is an important thing; it is when people declare or reiterate declared feelings for a special someone. Of course, recently the rebranding of Valentine’s Day as Mother-Father worship day has also made the headlines. Whether you believe that 14th February is a day to devote to a special someone, think of it as a day to celebrate all sorts of love or whether you think of it as altogether irrelevant, these new ads are bound to raise a smile or two:

Salman Khan in the anti-Valentine ad

This one is for the singletons. The distinctive bracelet announces the arrival of Salman Khan. He doesn’t want all the hassle (chick-chick) and the complications of being in a relationship. He proceeds to perform those jerky, disjointed steps that pass for dancing in the Salman universe. He tells us how he is ‘swag se solo’ even as girls asking him longingly for a Pepsi; even removing his jacket for good measure.

Sucks to be alone

So if Salman is happy to be single, Burger King tells us that the opposite is true, while taking a swipe at its closest competitor – without naming names of course. So apparently, MacDonald’s mascot Ronald is the ‘loneliest’ man. People are encouraged to take selfies with that lonely man to get a free whopper from Burger King. People were left wondering whether this was a bad joke or a collaboration between the two fast-food chains.

Break some hearts

This is a rap battle – a girl besieged by unwanted suitors narrates her tale of woe. Pat comes the answer: look after your own happiness; break some hearts. The Britannia Little Hearts ad is an interestingly unconventional look at love; or as in this case, unrequited (one-sided) love.

Mature love

Big Bazaar announced their Valentine’s Day sales with an ad featuring an elderly couple – and bananas. So according to this ad, the silly little spats and barbed comments that older couples exchange, is what real love is made of.

This love

Amazon Alexa decided to go the unusual route with their love story. The ad film features designer Suneet Varma designing the ideal romantic date for his real-life Valentine Rahul Arora and getting Alexa involved in the process.

Twist in the tale

Titan’s Skinn perfumes are some of the nicest made in India, and this ad makes the point fairly well. There is a girl, there is a guy and there is a gift. There is also some hesitation and a proposition – but not the sort you were expecting.

Cadbury’s Silk

This one is the most conventional of them all: young love, fireflies, chocolate and chocolate with a heart. It’s interesting how Valentine-themed ads this year cover a range of stories: from sweet young love, to mature love; same-sex love to one-sided love. Something for everyone, you could say.
