Game of Thrones Season 8 – Theories and Predictions

The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is starting in less than a month. Understandably, audiences are agog; simply dying to know what is going to happen at the end of this multiple Emmy winning, most pirated, most watched and most expensive TV show ever. The theories abound! Let’s see what is in store, or at least what people think is in store (the makers of GOT delight in surprising us; and not in a good way).

The trailer – GoT, Season 8

The trailer finally dropped in March and told us… well not very much, really. It starts with brave Arya looking terrified. We see the Queen – Daenerys Targnean and a (sort of) King – Jon Snow. Sansa and Arya Stark see the dragons for the first time. Jamie Lannister indicates that he will fight for the living; against the White Walkers; and we get a sense that everyone will join together to fight the common enemy.

Jon Snow will die again?

Oh! Wait! He already did. And then he came back. Maybe he will die again. Or Jon Snow will be king. The theories swing wildly in both directions. Take your pick.

She will die

Cersei is one of the most complex characters of the show and she exerts a fatal attraction upon numerous fans. According to one theory, she dies; in fact is killed by her brother/former lover Jamie – who is anxious to regain his lost honour – in battle.

King’s Landing will be destroyed

Well there is going to be an epic battle. It is not an unreasonable supposition that the capital city of Westeros and the largest city in the Seven Kingdoms is the epicentre of a battle or even the battle. (by the way, the title of that image is I suppose that’s why they call it King’s Landing)

Arya Stark will die

She is the spunkiest fighter and she is fierce and loyal. We’d hate to see her die, but when have the creators of this series ever cared for the feelings of their audiences.

Wildfire?

The Lannisters used the mysterious lethal Wildfire before. The trailer shows people carrying barrels. Perhaps wildfire will appear in the battle against the White Walkers? It seems reasonable... you know... fire and ice!

Will he retire?

Easily the most likable and human of characters on this show, Tyrion Lannister will perhaps retire on vineyard somewhere, conjecture some.

Bran will stop the Night King

He is the three eyed raven. He has ESP and he gets visions of the past (and future?) He is the only one who knows how to stop the Night King. Maybe he’ll die in the process – everyone will die in the show, predict some.

Epic battle of the dragons

This one is almost a given. There is one giant dead dragon reanimated by the Night King and two living, fire breathing dragons on opposite sides. A showdown is almost inevitable.

Happy ending?

Here is what I am definitely not expecting (probably because this is the end many like me would enjoy; people for whom the show creators have repeatedly demonstrated complete contempt). Winter ends. The good guys come together and defeat the bad guys. The bad guys are either transformed or safely put out of the picture. Dead good guys come back to life and everyone lives together happily ever after. Nah – not happening… none of it.
