Game of Thrones Final Season Episode 5 Update

The long, long TV series and arguably the biggest and baddest one of them all; Game of Thrones hurtles to its conclusion; with the penultimate episode of the eighth and final season now having been aired. There are a lot of grouses that people have against the final season – and fair warning; spoilers ahead! So here is what people are saying about the fifth episode of GoT, the final season:

Too fast, too fast

The previous seasons took time to really define the characters, create a complex and layered story arc. This final season feels like its rushing past, feel a lot of fans.

Why?

The painstakingly built narrative and the complex, layered characters from previous seasons are decimated!

About right

Remember episode 3? Me neither. It was too dark. Episode five was altogether too ‘lit’.

‘Lit’

So when I say ‘lit’, I mean it only in the literal sense. We see and hear the bells of surrender ring out over Kings Landing but Danearys appears to have gone full mad queen. She proceeds to lay waste to the whole city.

That’s me!

I confess, there were times when I was turning my eyes away from all the senseless destruction or even skipping bits.

Not pleasant but kind of satisfying

Sandor and Gregor Clegane, aka The Hound and The Mountain appeared to have had their final face-off (pun unintended) before plunging together to a fiery doom.

A strange personality change?

Danearys has been shown as a brave, strong but just leader all along; a reasonable and compassionate ruler. Her vengeful and destructive behaviour and refusal to listen to sense in this episode belies all that went before.

Maybe not

Some fans believe that the signs of the cruel, vengeful personality were always there!

Anticlimax

We also seem to have seen the end of the incestuous pair of Cersei and Jamie. I’ll refrain from giving you the details but I will say it was all rather unceremonious and strangely unsatisfying.

This was strange too

The anti-dragon weapon that seemed so deadly the first time around appeared completely hopeless this time around.

Hey!

Didn’t Jamie Lannister have his right hand cut off in an earlier season? Well that is a hand that regrew itself or some ahead-of-its time prosthetics there!

Poor Jon!

First he fell in love with her. Then discovered she was his aunt. He thought she would make a just and fine queen. Then he discovered what appears to be a streak of madness…

Arya’s alive!

Thank goodness! She may be a little twisted, but fans have made a lot of emotional investment in her. So she survived; hopefully she will have a significant role to play in the final episode.

This prophecy

Obviously, conjecture about the finale is rife. This is one theory floating around.

Meanwhile…

…We hope that people are having a good time in the North!

Poised for the final episode

Here is the preview of the final episode of the final season: episode 6, season 8 Game of Thrones will reveal all. People are desperately hoping for closure and a smidgen of justice. Is some fan service too much to hope for?
