Arranged Marriage – Should You or Shouldn’t You? Watch this Short Film to Decide

Arranged marriage is the norm rather than the exception in our country. However, many young people now question the concept of arranged marriage; the idea that one’s life partner should be the choice of others. While the idea of choosing one’s partner – what we call love marriage – is an excellent one, there is much that recommends an arranged marriage as well. We look at some of the top reasons why an arranged marriage is a good idea. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the page to watch this short film about a couple struggling with the whole arranged marriage situation.

They say marriage is a lottery

Things can and do go wrong in relationships; love marriages as well as arranged marriages do end in divorce. However, statistics show that divorce rates of arranged marriages are significantly lower than own-choice marriages.

Families that get married in India

It isn't just the couple; entire families get married to each other in our country. Joint families are still the norm for a lot of people. So perhaps the families should have a say in the sort of person that joins the family?

These guys did it

One of India’s most successful actresses ever, Madhuri Dixit decided to opt for an arranged marriage to Dr Sriram Nene. It’s been 18 years and it all seems to have worked out really well for them!

And these guys

Shahid Kapoor has been linked to some of the top leading ladies in Bollywood, but he chose to settle down with Mira Rajput. So clearly, arranged marriages can and do work even for high profile people in the public eye!

Sometimes it’s the only way!

Some of us are painfully shy. Some have self esteem issues and others find it hard to approach others. Should the wallflowers be consigned to a life of joyless loneliness? Besides many of us prefer to trust the wisdom and experience of our elders rather than to trust one's own unsure, fickle emotions!

He may be a really nice guy!

The film Unarranged starts out with a young woman getting ready for her marriage; getting a surprise visit from her groom-to-be. As the film progresses, we find out more about the two and their situation.

Watch and decide

The bride to be is clearly not happy; she is full of trepidation at marrying a stranger. The film covers a short span where the couple navigates their issues and confront their emotions. If you're contemplating marriage and are wondering what is the right way to go, watching this film may well help. Even if you're not, I suggest watching it…its rather sweet and very endearing!
