Are You In the UAE Over The Eid Weekend? Here Are Some Suggestions If You Haven't Made Plans Yet

The UAE authorities have announced that the eid holiday will begin on Thursday for public sector workers. It is expected that Eid ul Fitr will fall on Friday, 15th June and that the holiday will last till Sunday 17th of June. If you don’t already have plans for the long weekend, here are some ideas for things to do in the UAE this eid weekend:

The Fireworks

At 9 PM each evening spectacular fireworks will light up the sky at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina. There is also a fireworks cruise (Captain Tony’s), food trucks, dessert kiosks, rides and night market on offer. The Dubai Festival City Mall also puts up two musical fireworks displays on Friday. The mall will stay open till 1 AM where visitors can shop, enjoy roaming entertainers and even a wishing well.

Shop till you drop

In Abu Dhabi, as many as 14 malls will offer huge discounts to shoppers, in some cases up to 90% off for 24 hours from 10AM on Friday till 10AM on Saturday, June 16th. The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre as well has a shopping event till Sunday at halls 7 to 10. There are also games and traditional celebrations on offer

Some free entertainment

City Centre Mirdif has some exciting options on for the three days of eid: there are acro flag performers, beat boxers, a stomp troupe and B-boys on stage. Visitors can pose for pictures with ballerina stilt walkers as well. At the Ibn Batuta mall, the China Court Stage will feature a free to view production of Peter Pan from the first day of Eid till 23rd June.

Dubai desert run

For those looking for something fitness related, the 10 and 3 km runs will prove a challenge in the summer heat. The race starts at 6 AM on Saturday, 16th June. Participants can register online, spectators go free.

Wellness retreat

The Ritz Carlton offers Wellness Saturday all day on 16th June. This all female retreat features a healthy lunch, yoga, meditation sessions, one on one consultations and emotional workshops – a whole day of nurturing and learning.

Night out on town

There are plenty of options for those looking to let their hair down in Dubai. This weekend sees another option added to those: the Toy Room, the next part of the Soho Garden Puzzle opens up on Friday at the indoor section of the Meydan Super Complex. Entry is free.

Catch the football fever

No one in the world is immune to the excitement of the football world cup and in Dubai, there are many locations you can head to, if you want to really get into the football spirit. Event experts recommend heading to XL Dubai, Habtoor Grand, Dubai Marina for this. The whole venue becomes a fan zone with 6 plasma screens, two full sized screens and great deals on offer.

Atif Aslam Live

The Dubai World Trade Centre features a special event this eid weekend – Pakistani singer Atif Aslam performs live on 17th June at the Sheikh Radhid Hall.
