Car manufacturers have declared that any resident of Delhi or NCR, who can show that they either have an odd or even numbered car registered in their name, can buy their second car of the other registration type, at half price of cost of car.
Car manufacturers feel that there is potential for increase in sales due to what they are calling the ‘odd-even whim’ of the AAP government in Delhi, and they want to capitalise on it.
One top brass from an Indian manufacturer gave a statement on conditions of anonymity, “Hey they stopped sale of new diesel vehicles, next they’ll stop sale of new petrol vehicles. Who knows what they’ll think of next? We have to plan for higher sales today”.
This plan also addresses the millions of people who feel inconvenienced by the odd-even rule because the only thing stopping them from buying a second car was the investment. If the car’s at half price then its a great proposition. We surveyed some 2000 random people over the phone and a whopping 94.67% said they would get the second car, the day the sale opened.
The half price is only on the cost of the vehicle though. All government taxes and cess will continue to be charged based on the full price, so the buyer will actually see only a final reduction of 38%, but something is better than nothing.
