There was a story today about how the AAP government has spent INR 16,00,000 everyday on advertising. The fact that one of AAps talking points against Congress’ Shiela Dikshit was that she had spent a lot of money during the common wealth games just makes this figure very interesting. Lets put the money into some perspective shall we. This is what Rs 16,00,000 spent everyday could have done for Delhi:

1,60,000 additional mid day meals everyday for the children.

Pay 13186 sanitation workers their wages for those who work four hours.

9 new busses a month, allowing for some relief to the 35,00,000 people who use the bus everyday. Especially since AAP has lofty plans related to the roll out of the odd-even rule and still hasn’t been “able” to acquire any new buses.

They can build 1 more elevated corridor of 1.6 kms costing 143 Crores because they’d could saved the money within 2.44 years.

Could’ve installed 3 CCTV cameras daily to make Delhi safer. And this is despite the fact that the cost of installing these cameras across the city are grossly over priced in the first place.

Need better security

Installed 2,010 LED lights across the city everyday and have money for paying for their consumption charges for three years. Thats 60,300 bright lights chasing away the shadows every month. Especially since Delhi should be a safer city, right?

Could’ve paid for an additional 2160 Police Constables every month, as per the revised pay scales. Especially since there is only 1 cop for every 253 aam aadmi’s in Delhi. And VIPs such as the AAP chief are getting 3 cops per head.

Most importantly we need more cops

But instead this is what AAP chose to spend Rs 16,00,000 on, everyday.

We wait with abated breath to see how they justify AAP spending on advertising (if they do justify it at all instead of somehow blaming someone else for forcing them to spend so much on advertising themselves) when there are so many glaring needs in Delhi that could have been fulfilled for the aam aadmi, by the Aam Aadmi Party.
