Most of Bollywood film-makers tend to stick to the usual formula. But then there are those few, who dare to think beyond the stereotypes, take a plunge in the fire, and come out unscathed. We have seen many cute on-screen jodis, teasing, testing, romancing, but there are those gem of unusual ones too, which deserve our attention as much. Kudos to the scriptwriters and directors for bringing them together, and accolades to them for carrying off the romance so effortlessly. Let us take a look at some of these lead pairs.
Dimple Kapadia – Akshay Khanna, Dil Chahta Hai

Who would have thought that Bobby still had the charm to make the young lad go weak in his knees? It was oh-so-romantic when Sid paints Tara; And the look in his eyes.
Amitabh Bachchan – Tabu, Cheeni Kum

From start to end, there is not one moment where you make out that these two have such a huge age gap. Well, except for the scenes where Tabu’s dad, played by Paresh Rawal, points it out.

We could have never thought in our wildest dreams, that the then 65-year-old look so effortlessly dashing in his photographer self. His scenes with the 18-year-old Jiah had no touch, but the glances were enough to give fire to the already sizzling chemistry.
Madhavan – Ritika Singh, Saala Khadoos

A new one on the block, this is the story about an ousted boxer who trains a young street kid, too has an unusual pair of newbie Ritika Singh with a much older Madhavan. The chemistry is atypical, but has a raw charm to it.
Naseeruddin Shah – Vidya Balan, Ishqiya & The Dirty Picture
Ishqiya
Their intimate scenes in The Dirty Picture were steamy enough to unease many in the theatre, and the chemistry was like fire fuelled. In Ishqiya too, no matter how fake the romance, their on-screen chemistry was worth watching.
Priyanka Chopra – Annu Kapoor, Saat Khoon Maaf
Saat Khoon Maaf
A dark suspense, Priyanka Jodi was Annu was both unusual, yet in a way oddly good-looking, given the plot. Her search for true love brought her to his doorstep, and he has an unstated lust which he wanted fulfilled, ultimately at the cost of his life.
Naseeruddin Shah – Madhuri Dixit, Dedh Ishqiya
Dedh Ishqiya
Though it failed to set the box office on fire, this was indeed a treat for all who loved the lucknawi ishq, and nazakat. These two looked stunning together, and it was all so mushy as Naseer tried to woo his lady-love.
