Earlier this month, the 2016 Oscar Award Ceremony was held. Shrouded by the controversy of not having a single acting nominee of colour, a lot of other eventful incidents also took place at this year’s Oscars. So, for those who couldn’t watch this year’s telecast, here are the major highlights from this year’s Academy Awards.
1. Leo FINALLY Wins His Oscar
It was about damn time!
The internet literally broke when this happened. The moment Leonardo DiCaprio finally won his overdue Oscar for his brilliant performance in The Revenant, fans around the world could not stop weeping from joy. All those memes will definitely be missed.
2. Ennio Moricone FINALLY Wins His Oscar
The maestro gets his due
While the world was all over Leo finally winning his Oscar, another legendary man won his first (and arguably more overdue) competitive Oscar for the Hateful Eight. With over 500 music credits to his name , the Italian Maestro’s win was certainly the highlight of the telecast.
3. Spotlight Makes History
A pleasant surprise
By winning the Oscar for best picture, Spotlight made history by being the only film to win Best Picture and just one more Oscar. With its two wins, it became the first picture to do so since The Greatest Show on Earth in 1953.
4. Mad Max Sweeps The Floor
Max Rockatansky Approves
When it released, Mad Max: Fury Road received critical acclaim and audience appreciation. It’s no surprise then to see the Academy follow suit as well. At the end of the ceremony, Mad Max walked away with 6 Oscars, and deserving.
5. Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu Sets Record
From Birdman to The Revenant
Currently the most sought after director in Hollywood, Inarritu set a record by becoming only the third director to win back to back Oscars. The last time this achievement took place was 65 years ago when Joseph Mankiewicz won his second consecutive Oscar for All About Eve.
6. Lady Gaga Stuns Us All
A performance worthy of the Oscar
